Pete Alonso produced another huge moment for the Orioles. He launched his 40th Homerun to help Baltimore rally and beat the Blue Jays 4–3 at Camden Yards.
Alonso’s second homer of the night proved to be the decisive blow, with the slugger sending a two run shot over the left field wall with two outs in the eighth inning to give Baltimore its first lead of the game.
The Orioles had fallen behind 3–0 in the opening inning, but Alonso immediately answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the first to put Baltimore on the scoreboard.
Toronto maintained its advantage until Gunnar Henderson’s solo homer in the sixth cut the deficit to 3–2.
Then came Alonso’s big moment.
With Christian Franklin on first base and two outs in the eighth, Toronto brought Tyler Rogers in to face Alonso.
The Orioles slugger worked the count to 1–1.
He drove a sinker over the left field wall for Pete Alonso 40th Homerun of the season.
The blast traveled a Statcast projected 400 feet and completed Baltimore’s comeback.
Alonso finished the night with two home runs and three RBIs, lifting his American League-leading RBI total to 108.
Another 40-Homer Season
The milestone marks the fourth time in Alonso’s career that he has reached 40 home runs in a season.
It also places him among a select group of Orioles hitters. Alonso became just the ninth player in franchise history, dating back to 1954, to hit at least 40 home runs in a season.
He is also the fourth player to reach the mark in his first season with Baltimore, joining Frank Robinson, Mark Trumbo and Nelson Cruz.
For a player who has built his reputation around power, another 40-homer campaign further adds to Alonso’s impressive resume.
Orioles Still Fighting
While Alonso’s milestone will grab the headlines, the Orioles remain in a difficult position in the American League Wild Card race.
Baltimore improved to 76–81 with the victory and moved to within 4½ games of the Chicago White Sox for the final AL Wild Card position. The Orioles have just five regular season games remaining.
That leaves Baltimore with very little room for error, but Monday night’s comeback keeps their postseason hopes alive for at least another day.
The victory also snapped a three game losing streak for the Orioles.
For Alonso, the focus now turns to adding to his home run total and helping Baltimore make one final push.
With Pete Alonso 40th Homerun already on board, the Orioles hope their power hitter continues producing when it matters most.
