The Chicago White sox have officially arrived in October.
Chicago completed a stunning two game sweep of the Houston Astros.
It powered a 7-3 victory at Daikin Park to advance to the American League Division Series.
And for the White Sox, this one means even more.
The win gives Chicago its first playoff series victory since the 2005 World Series. Remarkably, that championship also came against the Astros in Houston. More than two decades later, the White Sox have returned to the same city and produced another postseason sweep.
Chicago wasted no time putting Houston under pressure.
Chicago White sox jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Astros starter Hunter Brown was forced out of the game after just one inning.
Kyle Teel started the scoring with an RBI single. Andrew Benintendi followed with another run scoring hit. A Houston throwing error brought home another run. Tristan Peters added an RBI single to cap the four run opening frame.
Houston fought back.
Jeremy Peña, Cam Smith, and Jose Altuve each hit solo home runs.
Consequently, the Astros trimmed the deficit to 4-3 after four innings.
But Chicago had another big response coming.
With the game hanging in the balance, Chase Meidroth stepped up in the sixth inning.
Meidroth launched a three-run homer to left field, pushing the White Sox lead back out to 7-3. He gave Chicago the breathing room it needed.
From there, the White Sox bullpen slammed the door.
Huascar Brazobán, Anthony Kay, Jordan Hicks and Erick Fedde combined for five scoreless innings. They finished off the Astros and sent Chicago into the ALDS.
FROM 121 LOSSES TO THE ALDS
The turnaround has been remarkable.
After losing 121 games in 2024 and another 102 in 2025, the White Sox bounced back to finish the 2026 regular season at 84-78 and secure an American League Wild Card spot.
Now they’re heading to the AL Division Series.
Chicago will face the Cleveland Guardians, who won the AL Central by just one game over the White Sox. Additionally, Chicago actually won the regular season series between the two teams, 7-6.
The White Sox entered October looking to prove they belonged.
After two games in Houston, there shouldn’t be many questions left.
However, after waiting more than 20 years for another playoff series victory, the Chicago White sox are four wins away.
From another trip to the AL Championship Series.
