Kobi Williams looked destined for a dominant Race 3 victory at Sydney Motorsport Park. Late race heartbreak reshaped the result and capped a dramatic Porsche Sprint Challenge Sunday.
Tyler Greenbury Racing youngster launched from the grid in the Porsche Sprint Challenge and grabbed the lead at Turn 1.
From there, Williams was in control.
His advantage had grown to 12 seconds by halfway, stretching to around 20 seconds with just six minutes remaining as the Porsche looked destined for another victory.
Then, on the final lap, everything changed.
A right rear tire delamination forced Williams into damage control mode. His huge lead disappeared as he nursed the damaged Porsche around the circuit, eventually crossing the finish line in fifth position.
That opened the door for Sonic Motor Racing’s Xavier Avramides.
The Queenslander had steadily worked his way through the field, moving into fourth by Lap 7 before putting himself firmly into podium contention.
When Williams’ tire failure struck in the Porsche Sprint Challenge, Avramides inherited the lead and held on to win.
His Sonic teammate Hayden Haikal and TGR’s Ryan Suhle completed the podium after both made decisive final lap moves on Daniel Quimby, pushing him back to fourth at the checkered flag.
Plenty of Action Behind
The drama started almost immediately.
TekworkX’s Lincoln Taylor initially battled Jones Motorsport’s Hunter Robb for second, with both drivers eventually slipping down the order to finish seventh and eighth respectively.
Further back, McElrea Racing’s Kamal Mrad and Sonic’s Ruairi Avern became involved in a synchronized spin at Turn 4.
Both managed to recover and fight their way back inside the top 10, with Avern finishing sixth and Mrad 10th.
Moylan Takes Pro-Am Glory
The Pro-Am class produced another strong performance from Stephen Moylan, who continued his impressive weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park.

After taking Pro-Am honors in Race 2, Moylan once again found himself at the front of the class battle in Race 3.
Anthony Gilbertson produced one of the drives of the race, charging from the rear of the field following his Race 2 DNF.
The McElrea Racing driver stormed through to ninth outright and claimed Pro-Am class honors, finishing ahead of Dean Wanless and Stephen Moylan.
Despite missing out on the Race 3 class victory, Moylan’s consistency across the weekend proved crucial.
Taylor Strikes Back in Race 2
Earlier in the day, it was Lincoln Taylor who struck back with a dominant Race 2 victory.
Taylor and Williams went wheel-to-wheel through Turns 1 and 2 after the start, before Taylor completed the move for the lead at Turn 3.
From there, the TekworkX driver was relentless.
Taylor opened a 5.6-second advantage by Lap 4 while setting a new race lap record in the process.
The previous record had stood for 10 years, having been set by current Supercars co-driver Jaxon Evans.
Taylor eventually crossed the line 8.5 seconds clear of Williams, with Haikal once again completing the podium.
The Pro-Am battle was just as dramatic.
Gilbertson had led the class before being forced into pit lane with a right-rear wheel bearing failure, handing the advantage to Wanless.
But with six minutes remaining, Moylan made his move.
The Stephen Moylan Porsche went past Wanless at the final corner, taking control of the Pro-Am battle and holding on to claim the class victory.
Wanless finished second, with Kent Leicester completing the Pro-Am podium for his third class podium of the season.
Williams Takes the Round
Despite the late heartbreak in Race 3, Kobi Williams still walked away with the outright round victory, finishing ahead of Lincoln Taylor and Hayden Haikal.
In Pro-Am, it was Stephen Moylan who secured the round victory, ahead of Dean Wanless and Anthony Gilbertson.
The championship now heads towards its final showdown at Sandown Raceway from November 6–8, with the final champions of the season set to be crowned.
One round remains.
Two championships are on the line.
And there’s everything still to play for. 🏁
