The Sydney Swans have suspended five players for the remainder of the 2026 AFL season, including finals, following a serious breach of the club’s behavioural standards.
Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, James Jordon and Riley Bice have all been ruled out after an incident at the team’s Melbourne hotel following Sydney’s win over Essendon.
The decision comes as Victoria Police continue investigating an alleged incident at the hotel. The Swans have stressed that their internal disciplinary action is separate from the police investigation.
The AFL has backed the team’s sanctions and the Swans say their decision is independent of an ongoing Victoria Police investigation.
The suspensions are a massive blow to Sydney’s finals campaign, with Heeney and Warner among the club’s most important players.
The Swans have acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and apologised to those affected, while stating that maintaining the club’s standards was more important than their premiership hopes.
