Joshua Báez couldn’t have dreamed of a better start to his Major League career.

The St. Louis Cardinals prospect made his MLB debut against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field and immediately announced himself in spectacular fashion.

Báez launched a home run on the very first pitch he saw in the big leagues a 449-foot blast to centre field.

The young slugger went deep again in his second at bat, becoming only the second player since 1900 to homer in each of his first two career at bats in the same game.

Then came the moment that put his name in the history books.

In the sixth inning, Báez launched his third home run of the afternoon, becoming the first player in MLB history to hit three home runs in his Major League debut.

He finished the day 3-for-4 with three home runs and five RBIs, powering the Cardinals to an 8-4 victory over the Cubs.

The performance was even more impressive considering Báez had spent five years working his way through the Cardinals’ system after being selected in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

The power wasn’t a complete surprise. Báez entered his debut after hitting 34 home runs and driving in 90 runs in 103 Triple-A games, leading Triple-A in homers.

But nobody could have predicted this kind of introduction.
