The Milwaukee Brewers put on an offensive clinic Tuesday night, crushing the Seattle Mariners 22-0 at American Family Field in one of the most lopsided games MLB has seen in decades.
The victory saw Milwaukee match its franchise record for runs in a single game, while the 22-run margin tied the modern era MLB record for the largest shutout victory.
After a relatively quiet opening five innings, the Brewers’ offence exploded down the stretch, scoring 21 of their 22 runs over the final four innings.
Christian Yelich, David Hamilton, Jake Bauers and Luis Lara all went deep, with Hamilton finishing 3-for-5 with a career high four RBIs. Lara’s three run homer was particularly memorable, marking the first home run of his MLB career.
Milwaukee’s pitching was just as dominant. Kyle Harrison worked five scoreless innings while striking out eight, with the bullpen completing the shutout.
The Mariners managed only five hits and struggled to contain Milwaukee’s relentless attack, while defensive mistakes added to what became a night to forget for Seattle.
For the Brewers, however, it was a statement performance from the team currently holding MLB’s best record.
