Polesitter and Title favourite Broc Feeney was hit and went to the back of the field thanks to contact from Ryan Wood, the teammate of title contender Chaz Mostert, on the opening lap. Wood received a 15 second penalty for the infringement.

Both teams had very different views of the turn 6 incident.

“My thoughts are, a non-championship contender getting involved in the championship, really,” said Triple Eight MD Jamie Whincup.

“Yeah there’s hard racing but he was just having a free swing and we’ve paid the ultimate price for it.

Feeney will have his work cut out for him to make his way through the field.

The final race of the season is producing 78 laps of excitement .
