Lando Norris bounced back in style at the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, delivering a big win for McLaren and reigniting his title charge.
After the heartbreak in Canada, Norris came out swinging at the Red Bull Ring — holding off teammate Oscar Piastri in an intense early scrap to take the chequered flag. The win narrows Piastri’s championship lead to just 15 points as we head into the second half of the season.
The McLaren duo went wheel-to-wheel early on, but once Norris got out in front, he stayed there — showing maturity and pace under pressure. Piastri had to settle for second but still walks away with solid points.
Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium in third for Ferrari, while Lewis Hamilton followed closely in fourth — equalling his best result since joining the Scuderia.
George Russell came home in fifth, unable to match the front-runners as Mercedes continued to struggle for outright speed.
Further back, Liam Lawson delivered a standout drive for the Racing Bulls, finishing sixth and putting together a strong case for a long-term seat. Fernando Alonso claimed seventh for Aston Martin, while Gabriel Bortoleto made headlines with his first-ever F1 points, finishing eighth for Sauber.
Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon completed the points-paying positions in ninth and tenth.
But the biggest shock of the day came on Lap 1: Max Verstappen — a frontrunner in the championship — was taken out in a dramatic collision with rookie Kimi Antonelli. Both drivers were forced to retire immediately, dealing a major blow to Verstappen’s title campaign.
