Western Sydney Speedway hosted one of its most thrilling nights of sprintcar racing on Saturday, January 3, as Lockie McHugh emerged victorious in the opening round of the PWR TFH Sprintcar Power Tour before an electric and packed house.

An estimated 5,000 fans filled the stands at Eastern Creek, creating one of the largest crowds in the venue’s recent history to witness sprintcar action featuring top drivers from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

McHugh, from Queensland, lit up the 30-lap main event with a last-gasp move on Californian ace Tim Kaeding, seizing the lead off turn four and holding on for a memorable feature victory worth $10,000. The pair put on a spectacular duel down the final laps that had the Sydney crowd roaring.

Kiwi standout Max Guilford claimed third place, with seasoned competitor Daniel Sayre fourth and Grant Anderson rounding out the top five.

Elsewhere in the field, several drivers encountered challenges throughout the race. Jock Goodyer, who had been leading earlier, was forced to retire after a left rear tyre went flat following contact while lapping traffic. Jy Corbet suffered a right-rear tyre issue, New Zealander Travis Buckley suffered a mechanical DNF, and Kobi Wright was involved in a lap one incident.

The full top-10 officially recorded in the A-Main featured a mix of seasoned campaigners and rising stars, highlighting the depth of competition in the Power Tour.

Up next on the calendar, the PWR TFH Sprintcar Power Tour heads north to Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on Wednesday, January 7, where drivers will aim to carry momentum from a sensational Sydney opener.
