Australia’s 2026 World Baseball Classic campaign came to an end at the Tokyo Dome, with South Korea claiming a decisive 7–2 victory in a high-stakes Pool C matchup.

The result locked Korea into the quarterfinals and knocked Australia out of the tournament after a complicated three team tiebreaker scenario between Korea, Australia and Chinese Taipei.

Korea wasted little time taking control of the game, jumping on Australia early and building a lead that the Aussies were unable to claw back.

Australia did manage to get on the board thanks to a Robbie Glendinning home run, but Korea’s offense continued to apply pressure throughout the contest to keep the momentum firmly on their side.

With the win, Korea advances to the knockout stage of the tournament, while Australia’s World Baseball Classic run comes to a close in Tokyo.

The game capped off a dramatic finish to Pool C, where multiple teams entered the final day with a path to the quarterfinals before Korea’s strong performance secured their place in the next round.

Australia now turns its focus back to the future as the tournament moves forward without them.

We are proud of the Aussies
