The 2025-26 season of the Australian Baseball League didn’t waste a moment getting intense.

Sydney Blue Sox 8, Brisbane Bandits 1: Sox Open with a Statement

The Sydney Blue Sox came out swinging in Brisbane, dismantling the Brisbane Bandits 8-1 with authority. A three homer barrage in the first three innings put Sydney in charge before the Bandits even knew what hit them.

Right from the second inning, the momentum was theirs, Harry Fullerton launched the season’s first home run, a two run shot that lit the spark. Moments later, prospects Hansel Jimenez and Jirvin Morillo followed suit, pushing Sydney to a 5-1 lead early.

The offensive depth of the Blue Sox was on full display — eight players collected hits, but it was Eric Rataczak who stole the spotlight. The Marlins prospect went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, delivering the late two-run single that sealed the deal at 8-1.

On the mound, veteran left hander Alex Wells looked back in his prime. He tossed 5.2 innings of dominant pitching, fanning nine, allowing just four hits and only one run a solo shot by the Bandits’ Will Riley. Sydney’s bullpen answered the call, combining for 3.1 hit‐free innings and four more strikeouts to finish the job.

Brisbane’s silver lining catcher Robbie Perkins recorded a hit in his Bandits debut, moving into a tie for fifth place on the modern ABL career hit list at .355 But the Bandits offered little else offensively, totaling just four hits on the night.

Perth Heat 13, Adelaide Giants 0: Heat Torch the Giants

Meanwhile in Western Australia, the Perth Heat showcased pure dominance in a 13-0 win over the Adelaide Giants. They hammered out 14 hits and pounced early, including a brutal three inning stretch against lefty Jack O’Loughlin.

The standout, Drake Logan (Chicago White Sox prospect) went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs his two run blast in the 3rd and monster three run shot in the 5th ignited the rout. Add in three hits for fellow prospect Leonardo Pineda, two hits and a double for hometown star Alex Hall (making his 250th ABL start), and contributions up and down the lineup.

On the mound, starter Tucker Smith delivered 6.0 shutout innings with just three hits and zero walks. The bullpen trio of Jai Hewitt and Angel Anzaco shut the door with six strikeouts and zero runs.

Though the Giants were blanked, they found a few highlights Sean Maple collected his first ABL hit, Jason Lott extended his club record with 61 career appearances and delivered two scoreless relief innings. Jack Partington usually an outfielder tossed a perfect 1-2-3 eighth inning and rookie James McFarlane made his debut, entering as a pinch hitter and later handling defensive duties.
