Kyle Schwarber’s power and a vintage performance from Aaron Nola helped Philadelphia cruise past Minnesota 7-1 in a memorable night in Iowa.

Baseball delivered another unforgettable night at the Field of Dreams, and the Philadelphia Phillies made sure the occasion ended with a statement.

The Phillies defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-1 on Thursday night in Dyersville, Iowa, with Kyle Schwarber providing the fireworks and Aaron Nola delivering one of his best outings of the season.

Schwarber wasted almost no time making his mark.

The Phillies slugger launched a home run in the first inning, then added another later in the game to finish with two home runs and three RBIs. The performance pushed his MLB-leading home run total to 37.

His first blast came on just the third pitch of the game, setting the tone for a Phillies offense that refused to let the Twins settle into the historic surroundings.

Bryson Stott added an RBI single in the opening inning, while Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh also contributed to Philadelphia’s offensive attack.

Nola turns back the clock

While Schwarber supplied the power, Aaron Nola provided the stability on the mound.

Nola allowed just one run over five innings and struck out nine, tying his season high for strikeouts. It was another encouraging performance for the veteran right hander, who has posted a 2.91 ERA across his past four starts.

After leaving his previous outing with a right knee contusion, Nola showed no obvious signs of lingering problems and looked increasingly like the pitcher Phillies fans have become accustomed to seeing.

The Phillies and Twins played in the shadow of the iconic cornfields made famous by the movie Field of Dreams, with Hall of Famers also taking part in the day’s celebrations. The game marked the third MLB Field of Dreams Game.

For Philadelphia, however, the nostalgia quickly gave way to business.

The Phillies entered the day outside the 12 team postseason field for the first time since June 4. Following the win, they moved half a game ahead of Arizona for the final NL Wild Card spot, with 39 games remaining in the regular season.

The Phillies didn’t just win at the Field of Dreams — they may have found some momentum at exactly the right time.

Schwarber’s power bat is firing, Nola is finding his form, and Philadelphia is back inside the playoff picture.

There are still plenty of games to play, but if the Phillies are going to make another run at October, this memorable night in Iowa could prove to be an important turning point.
