Australian baseball sensation Travis Bazzana has officially arrived in Major League Baseball.
The Sydney born rookie crushed his first MLB home run today helping the Cleveland Guardians to a 6-4 win over the Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field.
Batting in the bottom of the first inning, Bazzana launched a towering two run blast deep into right centre field to ignite Cleveland’s offence early. The homer marked the first long ball of the young infielder’s MLB career, continuing what has already been an exciting opening stretch for the former No. 1 overall draft pick.
Rather than celebrating with a flashy bat flip, Bazzana kept it composed shouting to himself before putting his head down and circling the bases. It was a moment that showcased both emotion and professionalism from the 23 year old Australian.
The home run came with superstar José Ramírez standing on first base, adding even more significance to the moment for the rookie.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt praised Bazzana’s impact after the game, highlighting not only the homer but also his aggressive baserunning and energy since arriving in the majors. Bazzana added two stolen bases during the victory and scored twice as Cleveland continued its strong run atop the AL Central standings.
Since being called up by Cleveland in late April, Bazzana has quickly become one of the most exciting young players on the roster. The Australian infielder was selected first overall in the 2024 MLB Draft and has already shown flashes of why the Guardians view him as a cornerstone of their future.
For Australian baseball fans, the milestone represents another huge moment for the sport Down Under, with Bazzana becoming one of the nation’s brightest stars on the global stage.
Travis Bazzana’s MLB journey just hit another level.
