Broc Feeney delivered one of the standout moments of the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, storming from 10th to 1st in Sunday’s Top 10 Shootout to lock in pole position for Race 3 of the Dunlop Sydney 500.

In scorching conditions and with pressure mounting late in the weekend, the Triple Eight driver produced a near perfect lap in the #88 Red Bull Ampol Mustang stopping the clock at 1:29.6792, a time none of his rivals could match.

Starting first in the one lap dash, Feeney laid down the benchmark early and then watched as nine challengers fall short.

“Stoked! Tenth to first in a shootout,” Feeney said after climbing from his car.
“Chuffed to get the first pole in the Mustang here at Sydney.”

A Shootout Turnaround

The result marked the first time since 2019 that a driver has jumped from 10th to pole in a Supercars Shootout — highlighting just how impressive the lap was under pressure.

Kai Allen came agonisingly close in the Grove Racing Mustang, missing pole by just 0.0046 seconds, while Saturday race winner Anton De Pasquale slotted into third for Team 18.

James Golding continued his strong Sydney form with fourth, while reigning champion Will Brown rounded out the top five.

For Feeney, it was another statement in what is shaping as a huge qualifying season — adding yet another pole to an already impressive career tally.

Heat, Pressure and a Big Sunday Ahead

Drivers described the conditions as brutally hot and slippery across qualifying, making tyre management and execution critical.

Feeney acknowledged the challenge ahead, knowing that starting up front doesn’t guarantee an easy run once the lights go out.

“Hot and hard conditions… it’s going to be a tricky race this afternoon,” he said.

With the field tightly packed and championship contenders surrounding him, the pole position sets the stage for an explosive Sunday showdown at Sydney Motorsport Park.
