In a season ending spectacle, Lando Norris emerged victorious in the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix not as race winner, but as world champion. The Briton secured his first ever Drivers’ Championship by finishing third, just behind Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.

Needing only a top three finish to clinch the title, Norris found himself dropped into traffic early on after a pit stop. Undeterred, he mounted a fierce comeback slicing through a crowded DRS pack, fending off a late mid race incident with Verstappen’s teammate, and ultimately re-asserting himself on the podium when it mattered most.

Up front, Verstappen delivered a commanding drive from pole, dominating much of the race and collecting his eighth win of the season. Piastri still in the hunt for the crown launched a bold opening lap overtake on Norris and settled into second place, but lacked the finish line pace to topple either Verstappen or the championship leader.

When the chequered flag fell, Norris stood just two points clear of Verstappen in the standings a razor thin margin that underlines how finely balanced this season finale was. Meanwhile, Piastri’s gutsy push wrapped up a strong season, albeit short of the title.

For Norris and his McLaren F1 Team, it marked a triumph 17 years in the making, their first drivers’ championship since 2008, and a moment that could signal a new era for the storied team.
