Geelong. Brisbane. Two heavyweights. One cup.
This isn’t a mismatch. It’s a collision of recent premiers and consistent September performers. The fourth time these clubs meet this season and the one that matters most.
History leans Brisbane’s way. Since 2000, five qualifying final clashes have been replayed on grand final day. In four of them, the result was flipped in the big one. The Lions know it can be done.
They’ve already done it twice this year. A Gabba win. A 41-point demolition at GMHBA. Their round 15 performance was ruthless McCluggage, Dunkley, Morris and Rayner tore Geelong apart. Add Wilmot, Gallop, Marshall, and the speed of Cameron and Lohmann, and this Lions team doesn’t need miracles. They have weapons everywhere.

But Geelong has been building for this moment. Depth, polish, control. Even without Tom Stewart, the Cats haven’t missed a beat. Dangerfield’s midfield dominance, Smith’s drive, Holmes’ running power, Blicavs’ adaptability it’s a squad that looks complete.
Half the 2022 premiership side returns, but this version is fresher. Hungrier. Sharper. A group primed for an 11th flag, and a fifth in 18 years.
The Lions want back-to-back glory. The Cats want their crown back.
One thing is certain: this grand final won’t be decided early.
Today, at the MCG, a new chapter in AFL history is about to be written.
