The road to a Newcastle Baseball championship reaches a critical point this weekend, with four teams fighting for the right to play for a premiership next week.

There is no margin for error.

In both Second Grade and First Grade, the equation is simple: win this weekend and a place in next week’s Grand Final awaits. Lose, and the season is over.

Adding even more interest to the weekend is the fact that Boomerangs are already waiting in next week’s Grand Final, meaning both contests will determine who gets the opportunity to challenge for the championship.

⚾ Second Grade: Toronto Tigers vs Belmont

The Second Grade clash between Toronto Tigers and Belmont promises to be a fascinating finals battle.

For Toronto, this is an opportunity to take another step towards a potential championship and turn a strong season into a Grand Final appearance.

For Belmont, the challenge is equally clear. They need to find a way through the Tigers to keep their premiership hopes alive.

This season so far Belmont have won 2 games head to head and the Tigers with 1 but all games nice and close. This will be a good contest.

⚾ First Grade: White Sox vs Belmont

White Sox take on Belmont with a Grand Final berth on the line, knowing that a victory would earn them the chance to face Boomerangs for the championship next week.

First Grade is the premier competition in Newcastle Baseball, with games played over nine innings, meaning there is plenty of time for momentum to change and for one big moment to swing the game.

White Sox also bring plenty of history into the contest. The Wallsend based club was established in 1946 and is celebrating 80 years of history in 2026.

That experience and history will count for plenty when the pressure rises.

Belmont face an interesting challenge this weekend, with the club involved in both the Second Grade and First Grade finals.

That gives Belmont the opportunity to potentially reach two Grand Finals, but it also means there is no easy path.

With Belmont missing the Grand Final last season for the first time in over 30 years they will be looking for redemption coming into the weekends game. Belmont have a massive winning history in Newcastle baseball and can not be written off after a stellar season so far.
