Kyle Schwarber provided the only run of the game as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves 1-0 on Monday at Citizens Bank Park.

The game remained scoreless through seven innings before Schwarber broke the deadlock in the bottom of the eighth.

With two outs, Schwarber launched a fastball from Braves reliever Didier Fuentes into the second deck in right field for his MLB leading 43rd home run of the season.

The 415 foot blast was Schwarber’s third consecutive game with a home run and gave Philadelphia the lead.

But the night belonged just as much to Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo.

Luzardo delivered the first complete game of his career, shutting out Atlanta over nine innings while allowing just two hits and one walk. He struck out 12 batters and threw 109 pitches.

The Phillies’ pitching was matched by Braves starter Grant Holmes, who kept Philadelphia scoreless through six innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six.

In the end, Schwarber’s eighth-inning homer was enough.

The victory gave Philadelphia a split of the four game series against Atlanta and moved the Phillies to 81-63 on the season, while the Braves fell to 85-59.

For Schwarber, it was another big moment in an already impressive home-run season. For Luzardo, it was a career night that gave the Phillies a much-needed complete-game shutout.
